No. Credits do not expire, whether they came from the free signup grant, a subscription or a top-up. Unused credits roll over from month to month and stay in your balance.

One balance

Your account has a single credit balance, shown on your account page and under the Generate button. Every credit that comes in (signup credits, subscription credits, top-ups, refunds for failed generations) adds to it, and every generation takes from it. There is no separate pot that runs out first.

When you cancel

Cancelling a subscription stops future payments. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, then your account moves to the free plan. The credits in your balance stay there and you can keep spending them. See Cancel your subscription.

When a payment fails

If a renewal payment fails, no new credits are added for that period, and your account is treated as the free plan until the payment goes through. Credits already in your balance stay. See Failed payments.

When credits are removed

Credits leave your balance only in these cases:

  • You spend them on a generation. A failed generation is refunded automatically; a rejection by a model's safety filter is refunded up to a daily limit.
  • A payment is refunded. When we refund a plan or top-up payment, we remove the credits that payment added. See Requesting a refund.
  • A charge is disputed with your bank. A chargeback on a charge you made can lead to the credits from that payment being removed.
  • You delete your account. Unused credits are lost when an account is deleted.
  • An account is closed for breaking the Terms. Credits in it are forfeited, and credits gained by abusing refunds can be reversed.

If we close your account without any breach on your part, or shut the service down, we refund the unused part of the credits you paid for.

Credits have no cash value

Credits are a prepaid right to use the service. They cannot be transferred, sold or exchanged for money, and they are refundable only as the refund policy or the law says. Free credits are never refunded.
